John Cena made wrestling history at WrestleMania, becoming a
17-time world champion, breaking the record of the “Nature
Boy” Ric Flair after he defeated Cody Rhodes in the main
event.
This is the first time that Cena has held a title in WWE
since 2017.
Cena worked a very slow match and was cheered by a large
portion of the crowd at Allegiant Stadium. The ending saw
the interference of Travis Scott, who came strolling down
the ramp with his version of the WWE title, saved Cena after
he pulled the ref from a three-count and also ate a Cross
Rhodes in the process.
Cena eventually won the title after he hit Cody with the WWE
championship and celebrated in the ring with Scott.
This ends Cody’s remarkable 378-day as WWE champion which
started a year ago in the main event of WrestleMania XL.
Ric Flair, who held the joint-record with Cena up until
tonight, took to social media to congratulate him.
“Congrats to my great friend John Cena on becoming a 17x
champion,” Flair wrote. “It was only a matter of time! You
and Cody Rhodes put on an instant classic! Much respect!
Wooooo!”
