CM Punk will enter his first WrestleMania as a competitor in
12 long years tonight and will also cross one big dream:
headlining the event.
This will be his first WrestleMania main event and only his
fifth singles match at WrestleMania, but eighth overall.
Punk was part of the Money In The Bank ladder match in 2007,
wrestling alongside with Mr. Kennedy, Randy Orton, King
Booker, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Edge, and Finlay. A year
later, he won the Money In The Bank ladder match, defeating
Chris Jericho, Mr. Kennedy, MVP, Carlito, John Morrison, and
Shelton Benjamin. He also took part in the third Money In
The Bank ladder match in a row in 2009 and won again against
Mark Henry, Finlay, Christian, Kane, MVP, Kofi Kingston, and
Shelton Benjamin.
He then started his singles run, against Rey Mysterio at
WrestleMania 26, against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 27,
against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28, and versus The
Undertaker at WrestleMania 29.
His record is 3-4, not the best in the world, excuse the
pun! To make it 4-4, he will need to overcome both Seth
Rollins and Roman Reigns tonight, not any easy task by any
means, but he does have the addition of Paul Heyman, who
will be in his corner for this match after Punk cashed in
his favor.
Punk was supposed to wrestle at last year’s WrestleMania but
was injured at the Royal Rumble. He provided commentary for
the Seth Rollins vs Drew McIntyre match and then cause
McIntyre the newly-won WWE World Heavyweight title, allowing
Damian Priest to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase.
