JD McDonagh can thank his lucky stars for avoiding a
catastrophic injury last night on Raw, although he still
walked out with a pretty serious injury that will keep him
out for months.
McDonagh, who teamed with Dom Mysterio to take on The War
Raiders for the WWE World Tag Team titles on Raw, went for a
springboard moonsault to the outside and his hand bounced
off the announce table in a nasty, nasty spot.
The scary incident led to Michael Cole repeatedly asking for
help to check on the Irish star. The referee and Mysterio
slid out of the ring to check on him during the replay as
Cole once again asked for someone to come out and help.
McDonagh then went on the apron and received an applause
from the Atlanta crowd for his courage and was once again
checked by Mysterio and the referee, with McAfee saying that
the “thickness of his head” might have saved him. He
continued to work the rest of the match but was visibly in
pain.
After the match ended, McDonagh was taken to a nearby
hospital to be checked.
“I’ve got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so
I’m going to be out for a couple months,” he wrote on X
after. “All things considered, it could have been a lot
worse, so I’m grateful for that.”
