Altogether, a total of 250 theatres will be running their initial showings of Beyond The Mat beginning Friday, March 17th.

Long-time readers of AS I SEE IT know that I stress the human side of the wrestling business in my columns, trying to show both the good and the bad parts of that human side. I've written about drug/alcohol use and abuse within wrestling. I've written about the increasingly violent style of it, the effects that style has on workers, and the need for fans to appreciate the risks being taken when working it.

In many ways, Beyond The Mat epitomizes the kind of view of the wrestling industry that I've tried to show readers in this column since 1997. It is a very human, very real look at the very human, very real performers that make it up. It also shows aspects of people like Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman that runs wrestling companies.

Whatever his faults are, Paul Heyman permitted access to Barry Blaustein and has advertised Beyond The Mat numerous times on ECW TV.

On the contrary, Vince McMahon's stance was not just to ignore it, but to attempt to keep wrestling fans and the average filmgoer from watching by denying the film the pre-paid advertising its makers purchased at a crucial time before its premiere. Judging from the groundswell of popular support, Vince McMahon has not succeeded in his mission.
